Here I show you how to replace the steering gearbox on your S10 Pickup. This vehicle has the parallelogram steering style, and most domestic trucks will have this setup. The old one had too much slack, so I tried getting it adjusted using the pre-load lock screw...bad idea. The result was zero returnability, and no feedback from the road to the steering wheel. Replacing the entire unit solved the problem.

  • How do you test if your pitman and idler arms are bad while taring all of this apart? Or should I just spend all the money and replace them both to at the same time?

  • @chevrolet0388 The best thing to do is with the vehicle in the air, yank on the center link and check for play. You'll be able to see exactly where it's bending at. Your idler arm will be more prone to failing than the pitman arm for some odd reason.

  • @63lesabre Thank you, one last question. When I turn my truck left it will automatically correct itself and straighten up, but when I turn right I have to manually turn the wheel back or I will just keep driving in circles. Is this something I can adjust or is the steering box malfunctioning?

  • @chevrolet0388 It could be an issue with the gearbox, but a misaligned or bent center link or improper caster can cause this to happen.

  • thanks to people like you... the internet has everything... i will do this tomorrow on my truck thanks man!

  • @TheAkhilesBoy Thanks man. I appreciate comments like this.

  • not a bad video. informative, intelligently narrated. viewer tip: turn your radio down so you won't have to yell next time.

  • @isthisreal1991 ...the isuzu hombre and the s10 are bolt-for-bolt identical, except for cosmetics, grille, and a few stickers. the 2.2 motor in the s10 is designed and assembled by isuzu anyway, so if you have an s10, it's a more formally attired hombre wearing a bowtie. no difference. mazda motors are in ford rangers too. the more parts two vehicles can share, the cheaper they can sell and fix 'em.

  • hey man where at do you live? cause i heard the banana on the background. and just looking for some reference for a steering box fix on my ram

    thanks

  • Don't use an open end wrench on your lines use a line wrench. You can crush your power steering lines tard.

  • 1:35 Aww are you fuckin' kiddin' me I LOLed so hard... I can't do a damn thing involving tools without saying some variation of this XD

But thanks for the great video, may have to do this on my S10 soon, hoping the adjustment will help but if not I know what's up now. Thumbs up and thanks man!

  • is this the same with a 98 isuzu hombre 2.2

  • Will this work for a 96 chevy blazer

  • Do u know what is the diferrence between a steering gearbox and a steering gear.

im confused man can u help?

  • @bounthisanej hey, do you know if i can use a gearbox from a chevy extreme? I have a 3/4 drop on my LS.

  • thank you for the video buddie. Ive been debating wether or not to replace my entire tie rod assembly because i can turn my wheel almost a half turn before the wheels turn. They show signs of wear, but now I believe it is indeed just the steering box. Thanks again man.
