  • First game I got for my PS2. Thinking Mr. Kalas had something to with it since the commercial made me want to get it.

  • HK wasn't allowed to make any calls in 1980 due to the MLB rules in effect at the time, which only allowed network broadcasters to work both TV and radio. The rules weren't changed to allow hometown announcers on radio until 3 years later, mostly due to the avalanche of letters to MLB from Phils fans who wanted to hear HK.

If I had my way, you would hear the hometown announcers at every post-season game. In '08, you would have heard HK at Philly and his son Todd at Tampa if they did my idea.

  • @ironlife421 U wrote that he waited long enough to win a WS so I assumed u meant '08.

  • @WorldTradeCenter2011 I meant he died before they played in the 2009 WS.

  • @Troy1967 He's already on the Phillies Wall of Fame. Why not have him in the NFL Hall of Fame too? But he was more of a baseball announcer than an NFL announcer.

  • @ironlife421 What ru takin about? Phils won the WS in 1980 and Harry was there.

  • @Badguy10472 is he the guy that sounded serious on every play for the 1970s nfl highlighrs

  • I may be a Philly hater but

    R.I.P Harry Kalas

  • I wonder how many people are in more than one Hall of Fame? If Harry is inducted into Canton, he will be among those very few.

I share your feelings, Troy1967 - he should be in both Canton as well as Cooperstown.

Harry, who was a Hall of Fame guy both behind the mike and in real life, was honored with the 2002 Ford C. Frick Award by the Baseball Hall of Fame, which is the broadcaster's equivalent of being inducted.

I attended his ceremony in Cooperstown.

  • Hmm, guess Harry waited long enough for his team to win a WS.

    RIP
