A nice book intro. I read both volumes last week and was inspired by Aleshia's colorful and challenging life. Her Hollywood years were a treat. I highly recommend these entertaining and poignant memoirs.

Thank you for your comment to Gina's review, hmengland41. In answer to your question about the painting behind her, yes, it is Carmen MacRae. The artist is BRUNI, award winning portrait artist of jazz luminaries. In the early days Carmen was a dear friend so this, the last portrait sitting before her death, means a great deal to me. Bruni captured the essence of the Carmen I knew.

A wonderful and articulate book review... (That's a wonderful painting of my favourite jazz singer in the background -- the beautiful Carmen MacRae. Is it an original, and by whom?)

I think that you have become such good friends says much more than any words of praise. I love it.
