  • @slhines7 there is no cure for autism only treatment and services which adults like them need!!!

  • Having a disabled family member affects the entire family. There is absolutely a need for more solutions but society will always be a poor substitute for the extended family. An emotional connection is critical for the safety of a vulnerable person. Who else but the family will go to the longterm effort to meet the daily requirements to make the environment feel safe for its most anxious members? Autism and it's challenges will soon affect every part of our society and nothing will be unchanged.

No, glutan free diets can't cure autism. If that was the case, I'd be cured. They just sometimes help controll the symptoms. It doesn't mean teir cured, just improved.

  • WOW, that is one strong woman.

  • Not all autistic people are trusting lovable imbeciles, I'm not, I hate most people, and I'm very quixk and witty at conversation, when people are told I have asspergers autism they are shocked because I've overcomed most symptoms, and I did nothing but went to my therapies, was treated like a normal child, and I didn't even had a special diet; you can over come your nature by will alone...

but what pisses me off about the work issue, incompetant idiots are hired over me.

  • @slhines7

how does changing your diet cure such a complex genetic trait?? Seriously?? my friend tried it and for a year no change,.so that's bullshit

  • @biologySoon Would you like for me to send you some resources for support? I am a licensed social worker in Georgia, and I work with individuals who have autism and related challenges. Please let me know.

  • Autism is over diagnosed. Becoming a catch all. That being said, Autistic adults NEED to continued support! Mostly for those who have no parents or others for support! I am a diagnosed Autistic. I lack support.

  • America's safety net is dwindling now, we have two wars to pay for and other problems that face our inner cities that have yet to be addressed.

  • As a mother of a child who is autistic who is now 21 years old. I always wondered when I would ever see a program that addressed children with challenges who have become adults. Not only adults but teens as well. PBS did a terrific job with this subject. I have the same hopes and fears as the featured parents. So good job. I hope our legislators take the time and effort to see that this community needs and deserves the same fulfilled lives as every one else. So thanks PBS.
