From http://cbiclubhouse.com To make your picture book manuscript stand out from the crowd, you need to do more than study how to devise a winning plot and create believable, unique characters. You need to polish your prose until it sparkles.
I think one of the hardest things to overcome is the tag that childrens picturebook writers just want to find a "lazy" way to get published. I think most people ( including a lot of publishers ) assume most submissions consist of half a days work and very little thought. I write in rhyme and think it's assumed I'm fitting the story to the rhyme. This is very frustrating when my stories are carefully crafted in prose first and I don't slot words in for the sake of it.
