This is the trailer for a course available at Saginaw valley State University. The course is Writing in Electronic Spaces as taught by Dr. Geoffrey Carter.
The video details some of the concepts impressed upon us by researching the remix--remix culture. In an age of digital composition, media convergence, and an ever-increasing dispute over copyright/fair use, it is near impossible to exclude yourself from electronic spaces, but what are those spaces, and what effect do they have, will they have, and have they had on society.
Much of the research done for this project was done by reading the work of Greg Ulmer, Byron Hawk, Alex Reid, Lisa Gitelman, Victor Vitanza, and Paul Miller (aka DJ Spooky that Subliminal Kid), but research also took place through participation in online communities, blogs, and social networks. Most importantly, by looking at historical references one can see that technology has always changed societies, and societies always change technologies. That symbiotic relationship is part of what makes us human and what keeps us moving forward.
Enjoy the film and thank you to all those who knowingly and unknowingly assisted and participated in the project.
