Scissor block---never knew the name of it--I learned something.
Dr. Leung Jan (Yip Man's SiGong) installed the scissor block in his personal style of wing Chun over 100 years ago--and I'm priviledged to learn it--seems like it was his answer to some Western boxing punches/high kicks.

well dunno about that but fi he did it's probably more likely that he absorbed it from "crazey monkey boxing" or muay thai. It was in thier curriculum long before 150<200 years ago.
In any case, it is an effective block it jsut doesnt leave you in a good position to adapt to sudden changes.
