Yesterday was the last time legendary LMS 'Princess Coronation' 4-6-2 6233 'Duchess of Sutherland' would take to the mainline rails before the expiry of her boiler ticket, and fortunately the tour was the London Explorer from Derby to Kings Cross via Nottingham, meaning I could see her pass through my home town of Attenborough. We first see her on the outward leg at about half 8, running 20 minutes late, passing Attenborough Fields just west of the station. In the evening she could be heard working hard, again about 20 minutes late at about quarter to 10, giving an impressive performance as she powers through Attenborough for her final destination of Derby, then light engine to the West Shed at Butterley, where she will perform driver experience duties for about a month before being taken out and, according to the her owners the Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust, overhauled and returned to the mainline as quickly as possible.
Please note, there will be no videos of the GCR from yesterday as planned due to the fact that I was cleaning in the morning and in the afternoon the crew of 42085 told me to climb on board just before departure, and I did not have my camcorder on me.
Nice shot mate
she was late in the morning because at derby they wouldn't give it a platform so they bussed everybody to Nottingham.
