This video is a quick summary introduction to what a "walk-around" lens is, what you should look for in a good general purpose lens, as well as a side to side comparison of 3 top walk around lens candidates, namely the Canon 18-200, Sigma 18-200, and Tamron 18-270. Each of these lenses were specifically built for APS-C cameras (these are cameras with smaller sensors and are not full frame). Everyone has an opinion on walk around lenses, and this is just mine. I did several tests with each lens and found that each has a place depending on what type of customer you are. • Hey Micheal, I'm loving these guided videos, I'm looking at getting the canon 60D (just body) then invest in the 18-200 lens ( as you recommended as a good all rounder walk about lens. Could you tell me where I could see other videos for beginners about memory cards, carry cases, tripods, etc etc

  • @sanjserif121 I have a video called "Accessories for DSLRs" available on my website. It goes through just about every single accessory a new DSLR owner would want/need/should consider. Its about 2.5 hours long and it will save you hundreds of dollars in knowing what to get and where. Thanks for the support!

  • I bought the Tamron 18-270 for my EOS 450D and the IQ was so poor it didn't match even the 18-55 kit lens that was bundled with my Canon.

I'm now using the Canon 18-200 IS and it's never off my body except for when I want to do some night/low light shots and it's the Canon 50mm f1.8...what else?

  • @SweetStout You may have had a bad version of the lens. Tamron has an incredible 7 Year Warranty on it. Please feel free to check the side by side comparisons on my blog.

  • @DaMatta11 Well...where is the link?

  • @DaMatta11 Click the hyperlink at the end of this video's description. You should be able to see the extensive tests there. The video is a summary of what I learned. Im cool with people disagreeing with what I say, but if you do please be able to at least provide some evidence that supports what you are saying. Thanks!

  • Many thanks Micheal, I'll be sure to use your advise. Keep up the excellent work in providing us beginners with fantastic hints and tips. I've have seen your review and others on DSLRs. I'm torn between canon 60D & 600D, however on reflection in reviews I think I'm going towards the 60D

  • against the recomendation of a friend who told me that only L lenses are really good i bought the tamron 70-300 as a budget tool for surf photography, and i am amazed about the image quality of this lens.

  • I'd like the Canon 15-85.

  • DaMatta11 is da Freakin' TamronFanBoy ( -__-" )

  • I love the canon 18-200mm lens. It is ALWAYS on my camera. Stock standard. Check out my demo video of "Laughing Kookaburras" on my channel to see how it handles video recording - very well! It's an awesome lens.

  • niceeee

  • @PahangDragonbird Stabilizer for Tamron is VC (vibration compensation), Sigma is OS (optical stabilizer), Canon is IS (image stabilizer) while for Nikkor is VR (vibration reduction)

  • Press 1...Truth.
