@swordsallday No but a lion doesn't have any other options but to kill zebras. Besides, we just have different opinions. Neither of us are going to change the way the other thinks.

@0bobbey0 excuse me peta boy, its alittle thing called the circle of life, it happens, do you get angry when your watching national georgraphic and you see a lion eating a zebra? its the same concept, just a predator eating a prey (the circle of life)

@0bobbey0 And I never stated that billfishing wasn't a stressful event for a fish, although I think traumatic is a bit of an over-statement. Anything we do nowadays hurts the flora and fauna of the world it seems. If I wanted to make sure I didn't harm any living creatures, I would live in a cave and avoid walking on ants as they are living creatures too, right??
I enjoy the sport and ensure I do the best I can to conserve it so my children may do the same in the future.

@0bobbey0 Billfish tags are designed to have as little affect on a fish as possible, especially with the development of the 'Billfish Only' tag. I highly doubt it would cause the fish to become unattractive to a mate, the colouration patterns of a billfish are quite beautiful and vivid (they don't need camoflague) and the tag is quite miniscule on a large fish. I have caught fish with hooks still in their mouth, that would be more damaging. Billfish are a very tough, resilient species.

@jordythebassist I really don't know the sport but are you telling me that you can describe fishing (revived and released or not) as a non traumatic event for the fish? Besides tracking devices can have effects that you are not aware of such as unfavorability among potential mates or a loss of camouflage to hide from predators.
-
@0bobbey0 Neither, I revive all caught billfish boatside and release them with scientific research tags. But, if a fisherman want's to take a fish for the table, then don't flame his right to do it. I may not agree with killing billfish either, but I won't condemn someone who does choose to take one. Ever been to the Pacific Islands??
And from your description of a fight of a billfish, it seem's you don't have a huge database of knowledge on the sport.

@jordythebassist Cows are killed with a rod slammed through their head at the speed of a bullet. It sounds messed up but the death is instant and humane. Fishing involves the hooking of the cheek of the fish and pulling on it. Then the fish suffocates from being out of the water. You tell me: would you rather die instantly of be cut, have someone pull on the wound and then drown.

@0bobbey0 Your stupidity amazes me. Next time you eat a burger or steak, think about how that animal got to your plate...

@bigtarponboy1 I am sorry, but I agree whole-heartedly with GoodDeal11. Pressing a button on an 'electric winch' isn't exactly sporting. Nobody works up a sweat trying to bring the fish to the boat.
I am sure that if guys are using stand up tackle at PEI to catch 1000lb+ Bluefin Tuna, you could catch a 300lb swordfish on conventional gear.

@bigtarponboy1 ummm no actually south florida fishing is the best, sir, thats enough out of u
I release alot more than I keep, but I will through one on the grill for you the next time we bring one to the surface.
