Here from November of 1926 is one of the most popular and prolific Jazz bands of the mid-late 1920's, Fletcher Henderson & his Orchestra performing "The Henderson Stomp", and featuring some of the greats of mid twenties American Jazz, including Buster Bailey, Coleman Hawkins, & Don Redman, and also sitting in on piano is Thomas "Fats" Waller. This selection is featured on an original Columbia Viva-tonal record, and played on an early two door Victor Orthophonic Credenza with a brass reproducer, and six foot internal exponential folded horn from late 1925.

  • Once again, you have outdone yourself, Mr. Victrolaman.

I am the jazz singer, but this piece of music and jazz is one that I have never heard.

The horns, the clarinets and the sheer pace of this tune has me dancing and snapping mee

fingers. I love the turn of the century equipment, too.

As a woodworker, and lumber salesman, I appreciate the art that went into creating

the music boxes, too. You are a good man, Mr. Victrolaman,

Thanks for preserving these pieces of American history.

  • @MosesReyes1 Thank you very much Moses, you have made my day with your very appreciative comments. It gives me great pleasure to share my collection of the great songs and performances from these early records with my youtube viewers and subscribers like yourself. Wishing you the best in 2012.

  • so incredible....i love this piece and the henderson band....an all-time favorite. thank you...sounds soooo good.

  • That was great!!! Sounds so good too!!!

  • @kirtley2010 Oh my ! You would be comparing an outside horn machine to an internal orthophonic victrola, and that is something that you just don't do. You need to compare apples to apples, not apples to oranges. I appreciate your persistence but for reasons already mentioned I must respectfully decline. As I said, there are already numerous very well done entries for that selection, and me putting up my E++ condition copy of that record would be apparent & obvious overkill.

  • @victrolaman i have seen it but the sound quality on a machine closer up would sound better, it is also interesting to compare machines, particularily credenzas and emgs

  • @kirtley2010 That is really great, but if you like the record that much, why not just listen to it, as I see you already have, on Grahamrankin's Youtube site ? Where you are already obviously aware that there exists a splendid example of that record being played on one of his fabulous phonographs. Putting my E + condition example up on youtube at this point would be, in my opinion, overkill ! Thanks for the suggestion though. and thank you for your continued support.

  • @victrolaman it is my favorite jazz song of all time! although i have not yet found a copy myself

  • @kirtley2010 Why did you happen to pick that particular record ? Just curious, out of all the Jazz records from that era, you happen to pick that one. Why ?

  • Dolby filtering really kills a lot of details of sound.
