  • not only is this the school version, but the white version, bless their hearts.

  • Yea, well you gotta work with what you get in try-outs. And who's the best and that's what we had to do.

  • What state is this in?

  • We performed it in New Hampshire at my school this summer.

  • Really? It's theatre. Being whoever and playing any character is the art of it! It doesn't matter if the cast is diverse. Though I do agree it looks funny to the story, for it calls for diversity. But if all the actors do their part and get the story and their characters across effectivly, they've done their job, regardless of race:) and I'm sure it'd a beautiful performance regardless as well, and it's colors apparent.

  • there really should be more ethnic diversity in Rent, but you just have to work with what you have I guess. But the play is always more effective when there is a diverse cast. An all-white cast looks weird. Part of the reason i think the play is so special is because of the racial diversity, and how every couple is inter-racial.

  • i don't think it matters about hte race of the people

i understand completly if it was on broadway caus ethere would be a wider variety but for high school stuff i don't really think it matters

  • they let the girl playing mimi walk around in a bra? in a high school performance? wow! my school would kill us. they cencer all our performances

  • I didn't mean to sound offensive. But race plays a big role for some of the parts. I mean, a white, blonde Mimi looks stupid in my opinion. When you have lyrics like "When the Spanish babies cry," It looks dumb if a white blonde is singing it. All I'm saying is that you have to work with what you've got. Even though an all-white RENT cast does look stupid, I must say.

  • ...minorities? Really?

  • I understand. I'm in the school edition of RENT in Mississippi right now (The first production of RENT there!) and there are not a lot of minorities involved in the theatre there-that's just a fact. Our Collins is black and the rest of the principals were white. There just weren't a lot of minorities who tried out for principals. However, there are a lot of minorities in chorus.

  • omg where do you get the script for the high school version please somebody my drama teacher said that next year we could do it if we get the script : )
