All three athletes perform on national (the Netherlands) top level in their age group.

Karlijn (14) runs a 3,06.32 on 1000m, a 2,27 on 800m and a 5,16.4 on 1500m.

Corinde (12) does a 1,47.17 on 600m and a 3,09.07 on 1000m.

Diane (10), most eager one, runs a 3,20.27 on 1000m. She has a very nice pull and her running shows minor vertical oscillation.

The eldest two run the 5K well within 20 minutes.

Many elements of good running can be seen here, but nonetheless they all have different points that they can improve on as well. To go short this is about; alignment, about pulling instead of pushing, about not driving with the knees, about unnecessary excessive arm movement and some more detailed individual issues. Second they will perform better on lighter, more flexible and less heeled shoes!
What a pleasure it was to spend time with these talented eager ladies on the trackfield.

BTW; Running sisters, Part 1 shows the running in normal speed

  • what camera did u use?

  • @dalv11 The camera is a compact Casio Exilim-FC100, making high quality pictures and nice HD video's (30fps). The slowmo's in the vid are 210fps.

  • I really like these video's, thanks for sharing!

Especially around 0:47 there seems to be a lot of vertical "jump" in her technique. Despite the otherwise beautiful legs motion and foot technique, the impacts seem to be quite severe, efficiency might still be improved upon with higher cadance/shorter strides?

Also I wonder what these thick heel strike specific shoes (or do I see that wrong?) do on the feet of such lightfooted capable runners.

  • @Cloxxki Hi, I guess the answer is in the description of the vid. But you're absolutely right ;-).

  • they have really nice form but my favorite is Corinde

  • This will be very helpful for animation practice.

  • Indeed three different techniques. Nice job and superb shooting !

  • she got super long legs. i got stubby short ones...

  • Beautiful knees, nice and high.

  • I think you're absolutely right that the girls should be wearing lighter, more minimal shoes. Shoes with thick midsoles are more suited for someone who's a heel-striker.

The form issues look like things that can be easily adjusted with good coaching.

  • Could you please send me a note explaining what you mean by "pulling" instead of "pushing"? Please also include how it feels to the runner and please note a similar mental visualization. For example, I understand the difference between pulling and pushing when poling in nordic skiing and the similar visualizations I use are "to pull on an elastic band attached to a door frame at about head height" and how it feels when skiing is "pulling on a rope att. to a tree to slide yourself along"

  • those shoes are big for running on track at high level

  • All three look terrific! You tube is filled with critics - ignore them! ~ Long term youth track and field coach
