different these days going through middle men manufacturers and stores rather than the old days of going out and cutting the bamboo and making them your self for each gathering. Sen no Rikyu was know for using new whisks and tea scoops he made himself whenever possible.

Thats not the whole ceremony. The ceremony usually takes at least, mabey five minutes.

The whisk loses its shape somewhat after the first use: however, there is a tool, a kind of stand, which is for reshaping the whisk. You put it on the stand while it is wet and let it dry. It's never perfect, but much better. A good quality whisk will reshape for a while after use, but... In Olden Times one used a new whisk each time on did tea, but now not even the schools can afford that.
