I think you have too much faith in Capitalism. Its rather interesting that those of us who are progressive equate freedom with individual liberty and the basic rights of people to live their own lives without restrictions, as long as they do not do harm onto othere.
By contrast those on the right equate freedom with allowing corporations to make enormous profits and soak as much money out of consumers as possible.
Does this make the USA a world leader???

This may be why Taiwanese officials would not use the US system as a model stating that the "United States does not have a health care system. America has a profit making system." Heath care should be about saving lives and not making large profits for insurance companies.

Well I do know that few people come from other industrial democracies in western europe and Australia. I have friends who are Japanese and they told me that its insane to have any society where people foot their own health care bill. I also know several people who came from Czech Republic and ended up leaving saying that its impossible to make a living in the US.

Who is advocating PURE capitalism? The USA has not been pure capitalistic in all of the 20th century and even before.
Capitalism, however, has without question made the USA the economic leader of the world, which has made it possible to lead in every (any) other way.
Compare the USA to any country; all of those countries either DO have people coming here for higher quality treatment, or they dream of it.
Can't say I know of such "protests", yet I haven't researched it either. Have you?

Here is a question for all defenders of pure capitalism. Why is it that in every single nation which has a publicly financed health care system, and this is true in every single country... Why is it that there has been no attempts to bring down their system. In every country, Canada, Sweden, Japan, Australia and so on there were never mass movements or mass protests. If it is so terrible for the commons to pay for health care than where are the mass protests? Where????

Our capitalistic system has been our great strength, and does distinguish the USA from many other Western democracies.
Part of that distinguishing factor is the fact that health care in the USA is the BEST in the WORLD—HANDS DOWN. (However, the distribution system—cost, insurance, etc.—needs MUCH attention!)
Innovation after innovation in the medical field (and virtually every other field of study) has been part of—and because of—our competitive, capitalistic system in the USA.

Socialism is NOT the same thing as Soviet styled Communism. But you dont have to be very old to remember when such communism (which is an economic system) had been around long enough to fail (remember the Cold War?), even though its creators and supporters claimed that it would watch capitalism fail. The opposite happened—capitalism proved to be the superior economic system.
The USA is a world leader BECAUSE of that capitalistic system.

Social Democray (Socialism) Is a step towards communism.
Scandanavian countries have been hit hardest due to the collapse of Wall Street. It is now a welfare state amongst minorities and immigrants where the crime rate has soared. Like I said if you think you can expect a better life, BY ALL MEANS GO and experience it!
Where are Republican members of Congress getting all of these talking points and why do they keep using them when they all seem to be factually inaccurate?
Whoever is feeding them these lines they'd better find more reliable sources or they're going to lose what little remaining credibility they have.
Ronald Reagan in 1961 on the issue of medicare:
"Write those letters now. Call your friends and tell them to write them. If you don't, this program I promise you will pass just as surely as the sun will come up tomorrow." (cont)
