When working on the singable translation for this song, I wasn't aware of the dog's gender. Apparently, Laika was a female. Laika (aside from a name) is also a type of dog breed. Thus, in my translation I refer to her as a male.

I came across this song from a handful of requests that came into my inbox quite awhile ago and it brought tears to my eyes. I knew right then and there it was a song that I wanted to sing.

For those unfamiliar with the history behind this song, the Russians (during the first years of the idea of space exploration) sent a dog named Laika into space. However, after only 8 hours, Laika died from stress and overheating and sadly never returned.

Ok guys complete history of Laika the dog. Laika was a stray until a woman found him. This women worked with the Russian space system and kept this dog so they could shoot him into space. The woman thought the dog would come back some day, but was later informed the ship the dog was sent in wasn't programmed to come back to earth. Laika means bark in Russian, and laika was very well tempered, even though he was abused as a pup. Laika is the first living creature to ever go into space.
