Dhasa: The Dhotoe Volunteer Committee for Leadership Nomination this morning held a press conference at Hotel Tibet, Dharamshala, where they announced 27 nominees for the upcoming election of the 15th Tibetan Parliament. Ten members from each of the three traditional Tibetan provinces will be voted in by the public, who will choose form each region's select candidates.
The nominations were discussed on two separate occasions by over 20 members of the newly founded organisation who originate from different places in Dhotoe (Kham) region of eastern Tibet. Information on each of those selected was collected and will be distributed to the public in order to better inform them before voting.
At today's press conference three representative of the committee, Mr. Sangye Tashi, Geshe Rinchen Ngoedhup and Geshe Tashi Sonam, individually addressed those in attendance and spoke of the selection process. The candidates were chosen for the active roles they have played within Tibetan society as well as their notable education; both seen as necessary attributes for members of parliament.
The primary elections are due to be held on October 3rd followed by the general election on March 20th, 2011.
The volunteer committee also notified that the number do not have any hierarchical meaning of qualification. One has to look at each candidate's own function and profile.
