Actually the show lasted an entire season, with more than just four episodes. However, the Fortuna had to be changed from a floating casino to a floating restaurant midseason, and the show just wasn't the same after that.
I like how the "Mr. Lucky" theme song is played, with variations, practically the entire time. Notice how the single piano manages to keep it up in most of the scenes in the gambling salon, for example.
I bet John's problem securing larger roles was his uncanny resemblance to Cary Grant. I believe my late mother also made a comment about this. Of course, John continued to do a lot of stage work after this show closed after only FOUR SHOWS! However, Mancini left us a great theme! Written especially for my own mother's friend! I get chills ...
Thank you so much for the clip! My mother was a very close friend of John Vivyan both at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and at the Barter Theatre of Virginia the year after they both graduated (1947). Mom passed away three years ago yesterday. It's a real treat to actually finally see John move and talk! She was right, he WAS drop-dead gorgeous!
this show was on for 2 seasons in 1959 and 1970 for ,if I remember correctly,38 shows.
