"Windgear by Joern Heinrich": the effect of the newly developed YDG (Yaw dampening gear) can be observed. Measurement data of the course (COG), speed (SOG) as well from the apparent wind, rudder angle and heel have been collected during the runtime of the video. The calming effect of the activated YDG downwind with quartering waves is clearly shown. The YDG actively counteracts the yaw which normally follows a roll movement downwind in quartering waves - as can be observed widely with other vanes. A vane with YDG could be interesting especially for those who sail with the trade winds.
