Serenade for John Gilbert

John is a great guitar maker who put American guitar making "on the map" back in the late 70's. Larry Ferrara and I try to visit with him and his wife Alice every month. Each time we go he asks me to play the "Serenade" by Philip Rosheger. Most of the time I forget some of the notes, so I re-learned it and promised to put it on YouTube so he can hear it anytime he wants. Here it is John... just for you! - Tim

This is the 1992 Baarslag guitar made in Granada, Spain. It is a small bodied guitar similar to the Eugene Clark. Larry played a cedar top Gilbert guitar for both the Aranjuez and Ponce concertos. Search under "More from this user" to find Julia Florida. Good to hear from you. Cheers!

I wish I could have written something for John Gilbert this beautiful. John is a wonderful man of integrity and heart. I knew him from the very beginning of his guitar building career. John was a much needed father figure in my life. I'm sure he has taken many a struggling guitarist under his wing. Philip is really a marvelous composer and guitarist. I with the state would give him a grant to support him in his compositions. Thanks Tim. Very nice.
