He arrived one grey morning and perched atop the highest branches of the pine tree in my garden, contemplating the next-door neighbour's fish pond.

I see this heron, or maybe another just like him, down by the canal on my way to work, though I rarely see much more than a few beats of his wings before he is away...

So to have him grace my tree for around ten minutes was a real treat.

He was bothered several times by some of the local jackdaws, who obviously seemed to enjoy taunting him.

After about ten minutes he lazily flew off in the direction of the canal.

  • what a lovely animal - why are those other birds harassing him?

  • that was beautiful footage! it was amazing to see him balance so gracefully on the branch....hope you have another visit soon although you may want to get an airgun to sort those crows out!!!!

  • The Jackdaws did not seem too happy with their new visitor.
