This is the extremely rare sight of an East Coast Class 91 AC electric locomotive, numbered #91121, hauling an East Coast Class 125 diesel High Speed Train ("HST") which is formed of power cars #43319 (at the front) and #43318 (at the rear). This train is 1S22, the 15:30 East Coast service from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh.

I'm not fully sure what actually happened to the HST set itself, whether it was a failure of one or even both of the power cars or some other failure but if you do happen to know then please let me know in the comments or send me a private message.

This train itself called at Peterborough as normal then is reported to me to have arrived at Doncaster on Platform 8 where passengers transferred across to another HST on the opposite platform face, being Platform 4, to continue their journey northbound. This failed HST set kept the Class 91 attached and ran ECS to Leeds Neville Hill depot for whatever repairs may be necessary.

I owe a *massive* thanks to 'KBRailVideos' http://www.youtube.com/KBRailVideos for letting me know about this, without his assistance I wouldn't have even known about this. I'd also like to thank the person who was able to pick me up (you know who you are!) and drive me to the station at such short notice, without you I would not have been able to even film this.

I hope you enjoy this video. Sadly I didn't film it exactly as I wanted to as I think I panned the camera a little too early. Either way comments are more than welcome.

Thanks for watching!

  • rare !!!!!!!

  • I saw something similar to this in York in October 2007, when a GNER class 91 was seen towing an HST, but it was going to stop in York and not pass thorugh.

  • @XxBec3509 Sure it! Thanks for the comment :)
