The last week of June 2009 was a sad one for the entertainment industry. In one week, Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett and Ed McMahon all passed away....even pitchman Billy Mays!
We will deal with Ed McMahon in this episode. Coming from Philadelphia, PA, Ed makes his 1957 network TV debut on a game show, "Two for the Money" starring the affable Sam Levinson (1911-1980).
Humorous hosts were the craze and shows were looking for personalities like Groucho Marx, who could tell long tales and engage their guests. Sam Levinson filled the bill.
This show ran from 1952 to 1957 with Will Shriner as host. Sam Levinson became host in the final year. Replacing announcer Dennis James was a new face from Philadelphia - Ed McMahon. Just over a dozen of these shows exist, including this one. I've edited it to under 10 mins for YouTube viewers. I hope you enjoy this rare specialty.
Air Date: March 23, 1957
