Super Mario Bros Movie Review - Good Bad Flicks Episode 50

In this episode of Good Bad Flicks I discuss one of the most underrated films of all time, Super Mario Bros. Too long has this movie been the butt of jokes and the bane of gamers. This movie is fantastic. It takes what could have been just kiddie fare and turns it into a cyberpunk adventure classic that needs to be seen to be believed. One of my all time favorites.

I would say a video game movie where the material from the video game was referenced in the movie in an intelligent way was Mortal Kombat. They didn't get everything right, however most of it was pretty good. I can't defend the sequels though and won't even try

@robinsl27 I loved the first Mortal Kombat. I dragged my girlfriend at the time to see it in the theater twice. The second one was just awful. If you can find it, Conquest is very entertaining. It's the Mortal Kombat live action TV show from the 90s. It has a very young Kristanna Loken and some good fight sequences. I was bummed it only got one season.

@survivalofone ohhhhhh I gotcha. Yeah, the later games did seem to be influenced by the movie, even if they don't want to admit it.

@trachenburg NO. That was just a shameless money grab. I mean the SERIES, as in all the various adventures in the games.

@marioradium2 Exactly. I think it's just one of those movies that people hate by default without even seeing it.

The Mario Bros games up to that point had no real story. It was Princess gets kidnapped, Mario goes and saves her. They did go a little nuts with the look of it but at least they tried to do something different. If it was a kids movie that was all castles and so forth it would have just been bad and then forgotten.

great review man. happy to see someone else likes this film. I always used to play the games as a kid, and it never bothered me how this film turned out. People complain about it being unfaithful to the games, but if I remember right the games only had a loose story at the time (and in it's own way the games followed that story).
