The Mouth rummages through the Treasure Trove and finds this beauty of a game that really typifies what Ranger/Islander games were in the late 70 till the mid 80s. The pure hatred of each other on the ice was always evident. Rather than show you hi-lites from the game , the game will be shown in its entirety. Well kinda. Fearing a cease and desist letter from the NHL the Big Man shares ONLY the first Eight minutes of the game. The eight or so minutes of footage are a great example of how a broadcast would go when these two rivals met. The game progresses like any other until it culminates in a exciting and long forgotten Ranger moment at MSG. This game also features Ranger announcers Jim Gordon and Bill Chadwick, both of who may have been lacking on citing the particulars of a game, but always brought fun and excitement to every Ranger broadcast. Jim Gordon died of cancer one day after turning 76. Bill The Big Whistle Chadwick is still with us god love him at the age of 93. So sit back and enjoy the Ranger/Islander rivalry at what could be its peak. February 4,1981.

  • Billy Smith is my favourite player from this era so this is really nice to see - even though he got killed in this game. I hope things continue to improve steadily for the Islanders. Everything about the franchise has been suffering for so long from the arena down to their uniforms and they've finally done the right thing in respect to that.

  • @nkmcfrln I think the islanders going back to their original uniforms was the only thing so far have done right. Banning Bloggers, Their own Announcers caught on air saying how boring they are, the 14 game losing streak, no radio coverage, and the injuries. this team needs a complete overhaul of infrastructure,

  • @MomotheOld You're right about everything. It really sucks for the fans of the Islanders. They have the worst team and the worst arena. They would show up and fill a new one if the team was good. I grew up a Habs fan until Keenan stole Chelios, so then I was a Hawks fan for a while. Now I'm just a fan of hockey. I love watching the Rangers play at MSG. I think the fans are great (they know how to cheer) and it would be twice as great if they had a good team to play against in Long Island.

  • @nkmcfrln always glad to hear from a hockey fan. I love the game and I follow it religiously not just The rangers. I am always torn on whether I want the islanders to be competitive for rivalry reasons or just plain suck because they are an embarrassment

I'm glad your allegiance to Chelios payed off. He turned out to be one of the all time greats at the position..

  • Blueshirts spanked the Isles in this one 9-3...love to see more of the Rangers goals! Thanks for the post!

  • @ekimfloom no problem eklim glad you liked it

  • I was at this game... Rangers blew them out and there were a couple of good fights in the 3rd period... too bad you couldn't post the whole game... great memories though

  • @nutballgazette wow nutball I know Bill was teamed with Marv but never heard them together. Emile Francis told me he was responsible for getting "The Big Whistle" the job. Like everything Rangers it was either Emile Francis or John Halligan who really made the Rangers everything they are,

  • @BANDIT62 Bandit it's my pleasure to put these video's up here so we can all enjoy the good times we had being ranger fans while the team is sub par at present. Things will get better though.

  • I WAS IN THE ARMY BACK THEN IN HAWAII LIKE TO WATCH THESE ALL VIDEO I MISSED THANKS A LOT.

  • Brings back so memories, Sad now the Big Whistle is no longer with us, Miss them Both, I was a Isle fan but loved this TV Crew, I remember when Chadwick was on Radio with Marv Albert.
