The dress pattern is placed on the wrong side of the fabric, and tailor's chalk is used to trace around the paper onto the material. Transfer the pattern shapes to the fabric with information from a fashion designer in this free video on dressmaking.

  • ok i taught the pattern is placed on the fold of the fabric, pined downed and then traced!

  • thank u, seems like it for begginers like me)

  • what if the fabric has a design such as stripes, plaid or floral? do we still have to trace on the wrong side? I am thinking perhaps it's better to trace on the right side so that you will have a better plan on how the dress would look after it has been cut? am i right?

  • What kind of paper is that? (the one with the pattern) it's thick. thicker than manila paper. thanks :)
