Adding a rubber band from the cutter frame to the center point of the table base would eliminate having to hold the cutter head down while making the cut. It seems to me the reason your having to hold the cutter head down is the weight of the cord keeps pulling the cutter up. But even supporting the cord up doesn't look to guarantee in keeping the cutter head down, IMO.
Interesting, I was just thinking the other day how I could put some spirals on a blank and just happen to come across this video. I had no idea they had a machine to do this.
