In the early 1960's, two records literally changed my life as regards my interest in playing the guitar. One was '12 string shuffle' by Bert Weedon (See separate video upload) and the other was an LP of 12 string instrumentals recorded by Billy Strange. During the next few years, I found LP's of 12 string instrumentals recorded by Billy, Glen Campbell and several others. This was LONG before the time of Leo Kottke and more modern 12 stringers. This little movie was made in an evening just for my own amusement, and is meant as a tribute to those guitarsists and LP's that so affected me when I was a young lad. I've used extracts from only two tracks - the first by Billy Strange and then, an extract from one by Glen Campbell. (They change over when their images change). The LP and CD covers just add a bit of detail. For anyone who is a fan of Billy Strange, he has his own website and forum at: http://billystrangemusic.ning.com/
Just read the L.A. Times obit. R.I.P. BILLY STRANGE (AND MIKE MELVOIN,TOO). TWO GREAT SESSION PLAYERS.
I'll never forget the BILLY STRANGE "thin" guitar riff on "Zip A Dee Doo-Dah". That was created by his cranking the guitar up loud with the microphones off...what was heard was the sound LEAKAGE.....
An unforgettable legend.

ME TOO! I still have the the 12 string album recorded by Glen as a lead session player. It was all instrumental folk songs. Arlo is still very good at this. I have some live video of him playing Alabama Bound I'll post over at my site when I get some time.
