As rumors continue to swirl on the Eastman Kodak Company filing for bankruptcy protection, Simon Graduate School of Business Dean Mark Zupan is reflecting on the massive impact that the one-time corporate giant will continue to have on the Rochester region and nationwide.
Dean Zupan can discuss how the positive influence of Kodak's dominant presence will be felt for decades to come:
- Kodak has spawned many firms that remain in the region, generating thousands of jobs and boosting the regional economy, among them ITT, Carestream Health, and Johnson & Johnson.
- Thousands more jobs have been created from Kodak founder George Eastman's philanthropic support for the University of Rochester, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Rochester Institute of Technology and the Tuskegee Institute.
- As Kodak fades, the company's legacy will endure through the leadership provided by the thousands of students trained at these universities.
- The University of Rochester is the primary beneficiary of Eastman's largesse. The school manages an endowment that is now a $2-billion-plus annual enterprise. The university has grown to become the largest private sector employer in the Rochester region and the seventh-largest employer in New York State.
"The influence Kodak has had on the economy of Rochester and the educational system it has nurtured in this region will be a lasting testament to its success," Zupan says. "I would argue that the impact of alumni from all of the universities Kodak has supported over the years is the company's greatest legacy."
To successfully invent something in the future, create something you make and see its positive interaction in the world, basically it's position kind of or fully being delusional but realistic, very realistic all in your mind then find and follow the steps necessary to make it into reality. - Anthony Abelardo

Kodak has been around over 100 years. Fact is, back in 1975 they invented digital cameras. However, they sat on the technology to not cut into their film profits and here we are. Today they announce Kodak is ditching digital cameras. Debunkers claim this is obvious, but it as as obvious as pepsi dumping soda pop. BTW, there is some bad news for pepsi. They are laying off approx 9,000 now.
