@matrix49A annnnnnd .......the LEM only had a '8kb one line computer!' The whole apollo moon landing computers had less power (computing) than your average PC in the living room!

@MiHiVidz Yes, that's my understanding too. I think this LM (LM-2) was also used for drop tests on earth.

@ApolloWasReal If this is the LM from the Smithsonian, this was originally meant to be used in an unmanned orbital flight (it didn't even have any landing legs installed). Because the first flight test of an unmanned LM (Apollo V) was a success, this unit's mission was cancelled and it became surplus parts for other LMs down the road.

With modern composites/material, battery technology and computers, what a lunar module we could build today!. Read "MOON LANDER" by Thomas Kelly. A little dry in places but a treasure from the guy who helped build the LEM.

to think, they spent less time in that than they did in the CSM, and the LEM was bigger as well!
What a great machine. Couldn't they have used a better paint though ? Maybe they got the grey paint free from the Navy ?
