  • Nice video. I was amazed that I saw straight attacks and no over the back flicks. I fenced in the competitively in the states during the same time period and everyone seemed enamored by that move (me included).

  • There would have been flicks, but you have to know what you are doing when fencing Nick Bell. He do`nt look much but he is one awkward customer with excellent timing and a vanishing target area. Took me years to get close to beating him and the only difference on that day above was my youth speed and lung power!

  • Classic Nick Bell stop-hit at 1:14!

  • The maestro in action!! Blimey, Laurent! Great video - I wish my parry repostes were that fast. Great footwork as well! Hope all is well with you. Sehar

  • you've got one hell of a parry reposte if i may say so.

  • your a badass what you do is awsome!

  • Sorry, "crappy" is a bit strong, but I'd rather watch attack/attack in prep. style foil fencing than someone that counterattacks (regardless of how effective it is-In my opinion not as aesthetic...)

  • Laurent has superb light footwork (he does/did kickboxing too) and a blistering fast lunge. This footwork is superb. Must see for any competitive fencer. (Just remember the lights were reversed in those days) P.S. You can go to Bonn as an old man in 2006 relying on a crappy (but highly successful) counter attack as in the other guy-Nick Bell. As a fencer, "you can go with this, or you can go with that..."

  • The reason as I understand it is that originally the scoring was touches against a fencer, not touches for a fencer. I think the new way makes more sense, but it took a little getting used to when I got back into the game after growing up with lights reversed.

  • Thank you for uploading this video! I too also have a very "bouncy" agressive foil stance, which causes my coach to call me out. He prefers to see smoother and slower footwork which everyone else employs; however, since no one expects me to be bouncy and aggressive I use my style to my advantage by taking the opponent by surprise. It works very well most of the time. I've never seen any other fencer with the same type of stance and footwork until I watched this video, and it's great.

  • It was not that complicated, It just always was that way, probably from when eletric scoring was invented!

I`m quite sure it was changed to how it is now to try and make fencing easier to watch on T.V.
