A three-run, fifth-inning rally against the Reds' Dontrelle Willis vaulted the Cubs to victory in the opening game of a three-game set at Wrigley Field in a Labor Day matinee. Matt Garza worked 7 2/3 innings to pick up his eighth victory.

This time, Carlos Marmol got it right.

The Cubs' closer came on in the ninth inning with a 4-3 lead and pitched a perfect inning -- using only nine pitches -- as he secured Matt Garza's eighth win of the season on Monday at Wrigley Field.

"Nine pitches? It's a strange world, isn't it?" Cubs manager Mike Quade said.

Marmol's 32nd save came just two days after he blew his ninth save of the season -- when he gave up a grand slam to Derrek Lee that erased the Cubs' two-run lead in the ninth inning against the Pirates.
