A step by step guide for installing an Intel X25-M SSD into your 17" unibody MacBook Pro. Although I specifically install an Intel solid state disk this can be applied to any hard drive installation. I also show how to upgrade the firmware on the Intel X25-M.

Visit http://osx411.com for more how-tos. More details about installing the X25-M can be found here: http://osx411.com/index.php?/topic/28-how-to-install-an-ssd-into-a-unibody-ma...

Computer used: 17" MacBook Pro (5,2) with 3.06Ghz CPU, 4GB DDR3 RAM, 160GB Intel X25-M.

  • Man, you're fast with that screwdriver

  • Awesome stuff, going to get myself a Vertex 120GB, only costs 270, this is 400 for another 60 GB.

SSD = Faster Boot and quicker loads on everything.

SSD = better battery life (Though only about 5%)

SSD = Lower heat (Though you can't really tell that either)

SSD = Way less change of failure (it's basically a RAM hard drive)

SSD = Sell your fucking house to buy one

  • Are you DUMB-???

  • cool I'm going to upgrade my macbook pro with an sad! I'm going to install the sad at he current hdd place and then chance cd/dvd out with a optibay and put the old hdd there so i have 2 hdd instead... and as i understand ill just press command+r when i turn on my laptop again and ill get a recovery window up were my OSX Lion is dry to be installed from... life is good!

  • @bdodds1985 Well im thinking about gettin a 240GB vertex 3 for system + programs and a 1TB spinpoint f4 for data + possibly some USB-drives.

  • @point6000x no. not my point. my point is there is no point in buying a huge ssd when you can buy external storage and use fw800 or for pc's use usb 3.0. even now they have a set up that uses the thunderbolt port (its expensive as shit) but what i am trying to say keep your internal an ssd with less memory (cheaper) and your external with more memory (hdd) so your not breaking the bank.

  • @bdodds1985 external ssd? What for?

  • @point6000x just dont buy a tb internal ssd. use an external with fw800 and you'll be fine.

  • @vietboi904 Ditto. This video is awesome in 1911 mode.

  • @rmbrown09

    2TB HDD ~ 160€

    2TB SSD ~ 4000€

    lets not buy one :D
