Our herd of horses looked like this when we got them in January 2007. After some months the horses were healthier and happier but it was very difficult to connect with them. Fortunately we found Carolyn Resnick.

The herd horses were worn out race horses in Barbados and up for slaughter when they sold as "riding horses" and shipped by boat to the island of
Mystique (part of St. Vincent).

Upon arrival they could not be "used" as riding horses and shipped to St. Vincent. They ended up by a European woman that had various problems. She could not take care of them. She had some ride them that fell off and later sued her. She left the country some 8-10 years ago and the horses were left alone with out care.
Nine of the horses died, 7 horses broke out of the pasture with no food and ran around since in the valley of Buccament. We rescued the 7 survivors. 6 are here at the center and 1 by a neighbor who has a lonely mare.
Of the 7 horses 5 are probably born after the herd was abandoned.

My lead mare Darling and one more horse Danny, we think had been in hands before.

Being abandoned and with no care in an area with houses, gardens and people who are afraid of horses, the wild horses have had very bad experiences with people.

This is now three years ago and theses same horses are today the teachers at the center.
