People are honestly wondering if Top Pop was lip-synched? There was one where they had video monitors play the song while Harry just stared at the camera. Then there was one where Harry was chewing bubble gum the whole time very blatantly. That's the way these shows worked. A very good live version can be found on the OGWT.

most artists lip synched back on these pop shoes. They were live TV and they instructed to lip synch so people could clearly hear the studio version. No one can sound that good. Listen to the studio and listen to this, no difference. Also identical instrumental. Either way me likey alot.

I don't think it was because of the band's poor playing (The Beatles were in the exact position pre-Hamburg,when they biult up their chops). I think Patti was basically jealous of Debbie (and has never bothered,to this day, to cultivate a friendship with her). I definitely agree with doetim- Patti must've been overcome with extreme jealousy post-1978, which goes contrary to what true conceptual artists are/should be concerned with. Again, I like Patti Smith's work very much.

Great song. The question: Do you guys think she's lip-synching?
