The Chicago court verdict which found Rana not guilty of masterminding the Mumbai attacks but convicted him for the Denmark plot is a not a setback to India said Secretary, Internal Security in the Ministry of Home Affairs, U K Bansal to reporters here.India does not rely on court proceedings in other countries or on the evidence given by any non-Indian intelligence agencies. The investigations on Rana and co accused David Headley is still on and once it is over the Government will go to the Indian court on an attack made in Indian soil.Bansal said whenever any probe agency pursues a case in court it always hope that it will succeed. Rana was acquitted by a Chicago court on charges of plotting the Mumbai attacks but was found guilty of supporting Pakistan-based terror group LeT and planning a strike in Denmark.The National Investigation Agency is likely to file a charge sheet against Headley and Rana in the 26/11 case and the probe is currently going on. The Bombay High Court had in February this year upheld the trial court verdict sentencing Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Kasab to death for the 26/11 attacks."The issue is still under investigation. When the probe is over, we will produce the evidence in the court," he said."Obviously we are extremely disappointed. We believe in Mr Rana. We believe he was not guilty. The jury came to another decision. We respect their decision, but we think they got it wrong," Mr. Blegan said after the Chicago court verdict. Rana's attorneys would go in appeal since they feel that LeT was not involved in Denmark plot but in the Mumbai attack, but the jury found Rana to be involved with the Let.Since Rana's actions did not cause any death he can get a maximum punishment of 15 years.
