Soprano Miah Persson, countertenor Akira Tachikawa, and the Choir and Orchestra of Bach Collegium Japan, all led by Masaaki Suzuki, perform the Magnificat in D major, ZWV 108 by the Bohemian Baroque composer Jan Dismas Zelenka (1679-1745).

The performance was recorded in November/December 1998 in the Chapel of Kobe Shoin Women's University, Japan.

  • Zelenka's music is stirring and hauntingly beautiful, not to be compared with Bach, though. He is in a class by himself just as is Bach. Both have provided us with inspirational music. Thanks for this!

  • I bought this CD after hearing, and liking, the Magnificat by Kuhnau on this disc. I still like the Kuhnau, but this Magnificat by Zelenka is the best thing on there. And this was my first exposure to Zelenka's wonderful body of work. Thanks for posting this on YouTube.
