Johns Hopkins University: Rat paralyzed with the Sindbis virus. Two versions of the recovery story: 1. Prepped embryonic stem cells injected 2. Rats own stem cells stimulated to act - this version from a Southern California researcher that spoke with one of the Hopkins researchers on the project who stated this was actually the case Net result: rat greatly recovers within 6 months.

  • You 'animal protection' guys need to realize one thing: Nature is cruel in the same manner as man. Ever saw lion tearing an antilope apart? Stop that 'atrocity' ! Torturing animals without any purpose is sick, we all know that, but animal testing has important purpose and gives us valuable data, therefore it is necessary. Also, it is heavily monitored to ensure that animals don't suffer more than it is necessary. So please, go save baby seals from Canadians and let scientists do their job.

  • You guys do realize that without animal testing there would be no insulin, no cancer treatments, no strong anti-biotics, the polio vaccine would never have been made, humans would not have gone to space, and we would barely know how a living body functions. The average human life span would only be about 40 years and be full of misery and sickness as it was hundreds of years ago before modern medicine. I do feel sad when I see a paralyzed rat in an experiment, but I'm also thankful towards it.

  • I am grateful for this rat because, if I ever become paralyzed, I may have a chance at walking again. Because of that fact, I revere its necessary suffering, not make light of it. You go little Hopkins rat scientist-hero!

  • @unrealy2k : / You realize that if that rat did exist, didn't live a horrible life, they wouldn't KNOW if this would work. Human testing is unethical because it could go horribly wrong, but doing that to another living creature is okay? Next time how them test on your dog, or cat, or etc. If you think about that and think it's horrible, you should realize that you're incredibly speciest . Care about the animals that have a fucking HORRIBLE existence, because those are the real heroes....

  • @oliviakarnes

Great comment, Just one thing though, would you like to explain to my dad who is a quadriplegic why he will never be able to walk, since you don't approve of animal testing. Without this testing people, you know human being who can think and love will never be able to walk, or even live without assistance. So screw this rats they are heroes that are helping people.

  • :( biedny..

  • wow wtf

  • @aliceinwonderlandx

i hope they do that to you but then i would say i am not against it , you are such a cold person, because it is not done to you then fuck it right? IDIOT, I hope you experience what is like to be paralyzed and the pain tha tcomes with it. This rat is suffering, do never turn the blind eye on animal testing, animal testing is EVIL.

THE ENDS DO NOT JUSTIFY THE MEANS.

  • leave the animals alone , assholes, practice with techonology! stop making the animals suffer idiots! where the fuck are ur ethics?
