Amy Goodman Detained at Canadian Border, Questioned About Speech...and 2010 Olympics

While traveling to Vancouver, Canada to speak at the Vancouver Public Library at a benefit for community radio stations, Democracy Now! host Amy Goodman and her two colleagues were detained by Canadian authorities. Amy was questioned extensively about the speech she intended to give; their car was gone through by armed border guards, and their papers and laptop computers were scoured. The armed interrogators were particularly interested in whether she would be speaking about the upcoming Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics.

Please be aware that the goons who did this were NOT Canadian Police. These were goons of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), a fascistic and laughably incompetent force of martinets who could not catch a cold, let alone Jihadist terrorists. Their expertise is in harrassing Canadian citizens and visitors from allied countries while ignoring any actual threats. Canada has the right to refuse anybody entry at any time, for any reason. You don't have the "right" to enter our country. You are not a Canadian citizen.

Oh Canada. My god what are we becoming? Any other Canadians extremely disturbed by whats going on in this country? There is a noticeable stench in this country to be sure. This is the problem with U.S. citizens : they think their rights follow them across borders.

Canada has freedom of speech but only for Canadians others have to watch what they say, they could be enemies.

Our border guards are not usually armed if they are it is because they are new, the old guys don't want guns.

She could have said I'll talk about anything that my Canadian interviewers ask me to talk about so if you want to know what I will be talking about bring them here and ask them.
