This is aragaki-no-sochin, very different from the shotokan sochin.

@DerSchleifer22 You should be careful because 99% of the stories Gichin Funakoshi wrote in his books are legends or "tatemae" which can easily be misproven today (in other words: He made it up!). The Shotokan Sochin is totally different to the Aragaki Sochin and does not share anything with the other Aragaki kata, so that telling it would be "the only true Sochin-Form" makes it sound unreliable. Who was "the old man"? What was his name? What did he teach? Where did he come from?

If the text of Gichin Funakoshi's "Karate-Dô Nyumon" ist correct, then the Shotokan Sochin is the only true Sochin-Form. Yoshitaka didn't invented it. He learned the Kata from a old man on Okinawa. This old man was teaching this Kata to different people, but the true and correct form was only shown to Yoshitaka Funakoshi, the old man said, when Yoshitaka had learned the Kata from him.

This Shito-Ryu is a little different than Shito-Ryu Itosukai. The kata is the same, just a tad different. I'm a 2nd dan In Shito-Ryu Itosukai and we do about 55 Katas from the top 4 Wado-ryu, Goju-ryu, Shotokan and Shito-Ryu. Look up Kenwai Mabuni and Ryusho Sakagaami.

do you know the history of this kata? JKA also has a kata called sochin, but it's my understanding that Funakoshi's son invented it (in the 1940s or 50s?). of course, it's very different. just wondering where the name comes from. to see it, do a youtube search of "Kawawada Sochin"
