@djfakt An mpc isn't a program it's an instrument, which kind of contradicts the point you're trying to make. Also a lot of Hip-Hop producers are multi-instrumentalist, Pete Rock is also a bassist. I sample songs when I make Hip-Hop beats as well and I play trumpet so the points you're trying to make are irrelevant. Next time learn the history of Hip-Hop before you talk shit about it. You're a producer who takes time to learn instruments but nobody knows of your music? Jokes on you.

i used to do a bit of sampling but also can play a little piano and guitar. hip hop as a music genre is a medium to re-invent and refresh other styles so it can get through to more people. perhaps there are many who wouldnt appreciate jazz if it wasn't for this. and i know the reason for sampling is those "subtle bits" nigh on impossible to recreate when playing on an instrument, that create the atmosphere, and when the beat gels with the lyrical content of someone like Nas, it's a Classic.

i understand the whole instrumentalist vs producer debate. but they're totally different realms of music making! im a huuuge ahmad jamal fan..but also a huge pete rock/premo fan...and i must say - both producers made great tracks out of this!
