This is a fantastic "Blue Columbia Shellac" 78 record featuring Sonny Greer and His Memphis Men. This was a pseudonym used by the Duke Ellington Orchestra. Sonny Greer was the drummer in his band, along with Barney Bigard on Clarinet and Tenor Sax, Wellman Braud on Bass, Harry Carney on Clarinet,Alto, and Baritone Sax, Duke Ellington on Piano, Fred Guy on Banjo, Johnny Hodges on Clarinet,Soprano and Alto Sax, Freddy Jenkins on Trumpet, Joe Nanton on Trombone, Arthur Whetsel on Trumpet, and Cootie Williams on Trumpet. This is a 1933 reissue of the original 1929 recording.

  • No, some are just in better condition than others, and it was also recorded direct.

  • Recorded on May 28, 1929, and originally issued on Columbia 1868-D.
