  • I saw a video of the R-9 1689 (The one in new haven right now) in coney island. Why was it there?? Did they truck it down for 1 trip or something??

  • @ArtyKing12345

LOL! Dude I hate to tell ya, but you got "punk'd." That was actually R9 #1802 - they took the number plate from the car in Connecticut and put it on 1802 to make people think it was 1689.

  • How many of these cars do they have in operation condition?

  • If you mean how many in service, then zero. However the NY Transit Museum owns 3 of the cars seen here - 100, 484 & 1575, while the other 3 are stored at the Coney Island Yard & Overhaul Shop and they're owned by the Railway Preservation Corp. There are also a few kept at other museums such as the Seashore Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport, ME and the Shore Line Trolley Museum in Connecticut - some are still operable. But these are the 6 that normally run when the Transit Museum does fan trips.

  • If I'm not mistkaen, R1 # 100 is the first car ordered by the IND

  • That is correct. They first tested those on the BMT Sea Beach Line (today's N-train in Brooklyn) in 1930 before sending them into service when the IND opened in Seotember of 1932.
