Chris/NW5W sent out a message he had planned to activate Mt Herman for Summits on the Air. Trailhead being 15-minutes from the house we (goats & I) decide to drop in on him but instead we arrive before him. The smiles on Chris' face indicated the FUN had on his first SOTA outing! (3-minutes)
Have the FT897 too.
Even though a little outdated (due to missing if-dsp) it does a very good job as an all-purpose radio.

Too cool Steve. Awesome to see you and your Wife Chris, must have been great to see those Goats! I think I would have a hard time deciding on whether I wanted to play radio or goof off with Peanut and Rooster! hehe.. Was Peanut there? Man, I must sound like a motor mouth when I get on the air and start calling CQ like I am in contest mode.....hehehe...73

You've got snow already. That was great for you to announce Chris' SOTA and get some chasers and QSOs ready for him. It looks like Rooster is being a backseat driver at the end of the video.

That was such a cool video to watch. Kudos for catching Chris' first SOTA activation on video. As the saying goes, the smile on his face was priceless. With your evolvement and that of your SOTA buddies, that will be quite a memory in Chris' amateur radio career. Good to see Rooster & Peanut out having fun ;-)
