Wish some of today's instructors realized that pleasing the crowd with good music is part of the game

@MrBdowning and @tellysworld This, I didn't know! Thanks guys!

I truly miss this era of drum corps. The Blue Devils were the best AND they completely entertained the fans.

@leemcd56 Those are piston/rotor bugles, my brother!
-
@tallicakid39 Those are "North" drums and they're BADASS!

@xxzhoutaixx The first 2 piston horns were actually earlier. Sopranos in '77, baritones in '78, mellos, frenchies & contras were in '79. In '80 we also saw euphoniums for the first time. In '80 SCV, most of the season, lead baritones played 2 valved trombone type horns called "tromboniums" (I believe Madison also had them, but we got rid of them before finals). In '78-'79, we also marched piccolo sopranos. Google: "evolution of the bugle" for more info.

August 1976 Drum Major Camp in Reading PA just days before DCI finals in Philli. The Corps came though as part of the camp, and I had NO CLUE what to expect. The first note from a Drum Corp I had ever heard. Semicircle formation, Blue Devils in practice. F-tuning followed by this magnificent show start to finish. From the very first note, my hair went STRAIGHT BACK, and I was forever hooked. BD will always have a place in my heart, as will the late George N. Parks who started all of this in me!
