  • I do not know of any more beautiful singing than this - for me she is incomparably the greatest soprano I have ever heard.

  • For me, too, she had the most magnficent voice of all sopranos. I have listened carefully to many. Some are good, but none can compare. I spoke to an opera director who said, "There has been none like her since (she retired." Golden tone, controlled vibrato, clean technique, remarkable breath control, and none of the warbly, scooping singing that is so irritating.

  • Isn't she amazing. She has to be one of the most gifted sopranos ever.

  • Yes, I agree. What surprises me is that many friends of mine who have listened to opera for year say that they never have heard of Gundula Janowitz. I am so fortunate to have discovered this golden voice so early.

  • Wonderful!

  • Thank heaven for U-Tube. We get to hear Janowitz in a variety of roles.I knew she was a great talent but to hear her in Arabella, Cappricio, the Brahm's solo, Mozart and Wagner is a singular treat. This has to be one of the great voices of the 20th century.Words like ethereal and angelic are thrown around too casually but in this case, the adjectives come to mind almost immediately. Try the Brahms' Requiem next with Von Karajan. Simply marvelous!

  • Thank you.

  • She is at or near the top: makes Queen Fleming sound a little over-dramatic, and Queen Jessye downright dopey. Janowitz's Mozart is without equal: it's like listening to an angel. There is both drama and control there: when it comes to Mozart, you can't do better than that.

  • She is the best ever. Clean and bright. Prima!

  • In terms of purity of sound I think she has had few equals. I love her, Popp, Stich-Randall. Just amazing.

  • Without a doubt the most beautiful soprano voice ever! Such control and discipline in singing as well as great expresion and sensitivity!
