The Australian Shepard is a non exisitng Australian dog. It was breed in the US and have never ever even heard of them until I was in the US The Austalian Cattle dog can either be a red heeler or a blue heeler. But the breed is called the Australian Cattle dog I have found most Americans talk through their arse about the breed and most in the US are not pure breed either. But this video clip above does provide true facts about the origin I own the son of the Australian Champ 2 year in a row

I was a little confused when they said "Australian Cattle Dogs" becasue we call these doge Blue Healers.

I think there's some other breed called Australian Shepards or something which actually have no connection to Australia but were named that way due to a mis-understanding (something to do with the ship they came in on).

Blue Healers can be seriously smart but the down side of that is that if you don't raise them right they can also be kind of nuts.

Would I be correct in guessing that the deafness that occurs in the bread comes from the dalmatian portion of the animal?

Cattle Dogs are part Dingo which live up to 25 years. It's believed that the Dingo in them is responsible for their long lives. My mix died at 20. Bluie, the longest lived dog died at 29.
