The winners of the 2008 OPERA NEWS AWARDS were:
•Composer JOHN ADAMS, whose Doctor Atomic has been a critical sensation this fall at the Metropolitan Opera
•Dazzling French soprano NATALIE DESSAY
•Superstar American soprano RENÉE FLEMING
•Legendary American mezzo-soprano MARILYN HORNE
•Great American baritone SHERRILL MILNES

The hosts for the awards ceremony were:
•Renowned American mezzo soprano SUSAN GRAHAM, 2005 Opera News Award-winner and star of the Mets new production of Berliozs Damnation of Faust, and celebrated American baritone THOMAS HAMPSON, 2007 Opera News Award-winner and star of the Mets upcoming new production of Massenets Thaïs

The award presenters were:
•Legendary tenor PLÁCIDO DOMINGO (presenting to Mr. Milnes)
•ALAN GILBERT, Music Director Designate of the New York Philharmonic (presenting to Mr. Adams)
•Popular radio personality, author and Prairie Home Companion host GARRISON KEILLOR (presenting to Ms. Fleming)
•Metropolitan Opera Music Director James Levine (presenting to Ms. Horne)
•Award-winning stage, film, radio and TV actress MARIAN SELDES (presenting to Ms. Dessay)

There's really no need to be so picky. Relax!!! It's fun to see all these stars getting together. I can't see what's wrong with the way they act and speak. Dessay speaks with accent? Understandable, she IS a French. Give her a break.

then again i think that Opera News' major opera critic is a Drag Queen? People in our days try to transform Opera into a gay spectacle as common as gay porn. I really hope this does not happen

they actually copy the way Hollywood stars act and speak on awards... hollywood stars also do that...

This proves of how not-special all these people are since they cannot even be themselves in a unique way. (Dessay not being able to speak english witout heavy frenxh accent? ahahaha and she supposedly controls her accents )
