Yes, the plants are fake. I can keep live ones for about a month or two before they start to go. And the cichlids love the water, they do really good in it... but I don't have anything to measure the salinity so I'm not sure exactly how much is in there... how do you measure that? I've never seen a test kit or anything and I've even looked for one to see
He dosen't look very healthy

Yeah, that was when he was still getting used to the tank. He is a much darker more natural color now and seems much healthier!
