Here are some personal size watermelon plants for the year 2010. They are supposed to be the sugar baby dark greek type; however I believe that it will change color when it matures. YES; these are the same seed melons grown onder my MH/ HPS light from video # ZqTXVLEe9Qo .

  • we have lots of slugs outside so once the fruit pops up is it possible that the slugs eat it?

  • @kathen111: Yes; The slugs will eat the fruit; leaves, and leave the plants at death. I would but some snail killer bait out now so they do not get to them.

Sheets of copper and or copper foil also work very good at keeping away snails [dont know about slugs but they are basically the same thing].

  • is your watermelon plant in a big bucket?

i want to plant watermelon also this spring/summer and i don't want to plant it on the ground. i want to put it in a big bucket like yours :)

also what can i use to keep bugs off them?

i heard you could buy pest control and spray it on the plant to keep them off but im scared it might affect the plant also right? i also look online and they said you can just use water and dish soap water together and spray the plant and it will keep the insects away.

  • @joske324 Thanks for the info.!! You wouldn't happen to know how long the tendril was dry before you harvested the melon? I still have my watermelon on the vine, but the tendril is not dry at all. I watched another video where a guy cut his watemelon once the tendril was dry, but it was still not ripe. I will be uploading a video soon as soon as it stops raining. I heard lots of water is not good for your melons either because it takes away for the sweetness, so idk.

  • @VxHONEYxV8 I attempted to grow sugar baby watermelons for the first time this year.I ended up forgetting about the plants and left them to the Fl heat and rain :< Today I went outside and noticed that the 'umbilical cord' from the plant to the fruit had died. I had written off any success with them this year until I cut the dark fruit open. It was ripe and so yummy!! I have heard that you need to leave them on the vine until the vine dies back. The longer the better! It worked for me!

    =)

  • i planted them from seeds, and they are just stating little melons on the plants now.

  • do you know when sugar baby melons are ready to be picked? I have one that is yellow on the bottom, but I don't know if its ready to be picked. this is my first time growing anything, so any advice would be helpful. thanks kerry
